Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction states that an electromotive force is induced in a loop of copper wire when there is a change of magnetic flux linking the loop. According to this, the induced EMF is equal to the negative of the rate of change of flux. This principle can be tested out with an oscillating magnet that goes through a loop of wire fashioned into a solenoid. This is the case being used in the present experiment. The collected data can be used to quantitatively verify Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction.

This experiment uses a conical pendulum to familiarize the experimenter with dynamic equilibrium in rotational motion. In this investigation, we identify the free body diagram of a horizontally whirling object and see how the object lifts as its speed goes up. The lift apparently defies the downward pull of gravity but we see how an angular balance of forces allows the object to swirl at a certain lift angle. As the speed of the object changes, the forces adapt and preserve the delicate balance.

The experiment setup comprises a rotating disk, assembly of solenoids, a Hall probe, and all these connected to Qosain Scientific’s Physlogger. Beautiful signals of emf can be observed on the PC when the magnet carrying disk is rotated, and also, the field of the magnet as it approaches and recedes from the Hall Sensor. As solenoids are connected to the differential channel of Physlogger, floating signals of emf are logged by the Physlogger.
